A GRANDMOTHER who has been giving her time and energy to her community for 32 years has been recognised for her efforts.
Jackie Pell, a Braintree district councillor for Halstead, was presented with a certificate at a full council meeting after clocking up 25 years of continuous service.
The mother-of-two from Halstead began a lifelong theme of helping out in her home town 32 years ago when she was asked to help organise a street party.
Since then, she has run a pre-school, volunteered as a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator, served as mayor and been an active member of Halstead Residents’ Association for many years.
And despite her active involvement in her community, she says she has never been political.
The 66-year-old said: “I love to get involved and to know that I am helping others – it is very satisfying.
“But I have always said I am not political. I am more interested in helping people rather than party politics.
“To know that you have made a difference to just one person’s life, for me, is a great achievement.”
Mrs Pell has been a councillor for the Halstead Trinity ward since 1987.
She is married with two children and three grandchildren.
