Hundreds of people packed out the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Lavenham on Monday to hear the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, speak.

He was giving the second annual Jean Guy Memorial Lecture called Ethics and Empathy: a new framework for moral reflection? in memory of the late Dr Jean Guy, a consultant radiologist who retired to Lavenham and was a church reader.

Describing the lecture as inspiring, Rector the Rev Stephen Earls said: “It was very successful. It’s the centenary of our diocese and we were delighted to be able to welcome him here as part of our centenary celebration.”

Dr Williams stepped down in 2012.
