A passionate volunteer who died after fighting three different cancers in seven years is to be remembered by friends and fellow cat lovers at the weekend.

Maggie Wood moved to Wickham St Paul in 2005 soon after setting up the Friends of Felines charity to help unwanted, poorly and feral cats.

Until her death in November, she helped hundreds of cats find new homes, while keeping the number of feral cats down.

Now the small group of helpers that worked with Mrs Wood have decided to run a jumble sale and bazaar in her memory and to raise money for the charity she cherished so dearly.

The event takes place at Wickham St Paul Village Hall on Saturday from 2pm.

Organisers say the sale is the least they can do to keep the charity going after Mrs Wood spent much of her own money setting it up, alongside donations and money brought in from fundraising events.

Even when suffering from cancer, Mrs Wood would look after cats and, with the help of a small group of volunteers, the charity has gone from strength to strength.
