SUDBURY in Bloom is looking for new committee members in a bid to win a coveted gold award in next year’s Anglia in Bloom competition.
This year’s floral efforts won the town a silver gilt award – one off the gold – and now chairman Nick Irwin is hoping more people will join his committee so the town can go for gold.
It’s not a huge commitment,” he said. “We know people are proud of their town and if anyone wants to join us we would love to see them.”
Meetings are every six weeks or so throughout the year.
“It’s not just a case of meeting near judging day, we are busy throughout the year planning ahead,” said Mr Irwin.
As well as sorting out the hanging baskets and flower beds dotted around the town, the group does a lot of work with local schools and, in the past, has supplied bulbs for schoolchildren to grow.
Sudbury Resource Centre, which supports adults with learning difficulties, is also involved with Sudbury in Bloom and judges regularly visit the centre as part of their tour of the town each July.
Mr Irwin added: “Sudbury in Bloom is for anyone who wants to do something for their town.
“Sudbury has many assets and we look forward to welcoming some new people to our committee.”
The next meeting of Sudbury in Bloom is in the meeting room at Sudbury Town Hall on November 29 at 10.30am.
