A Great Cornard councillor has allocated £100,000 to good causes in the last decade following his latest presentation.

Peter Beer, Babergh District and Great Cornard Parish councillor handed over £3,750 to Great Cornard Sports Centre recently. The funds will be used to pay for refurbishments to the centre’s entrance to attract more users.

The money was provided from Mr Beer’s Locality Budget, a fund councillors can use to distribute cash to worthy causes in their area. It means Mr Beer has now paid out £100,000 in 11 years.

“I am very pleased to have been able to help so many causes,” said Mr Beer.

“I think 99 per cent of the money has been spent in Great Cornard and I am always happy to help vital assets.”
