With the sun shining down on Sudbury 97 cyclists took to the roads on Sunday for Women on Wheels, with the event described as a great success.
This was the second annual Women On Wheels (WOW) event in Sudbury following on from WOW 2015.
The race is organised by South Suffolk Leisure, St Nicholas Hospice and Suffolk Cycle.
WOW aims to encourage women and girls of all ages or cycling ability to get together and enjoy a fun, relaxing ride around the villages of Sudbury while raising money for the St Nicholas Hospice.
As part of the entry to WOW each rider was entered into a free prize draw to win a Garmin sat nav worth £200 sponsored by Torque Bikes in Sudbury who have supported the event for the past two years.
Mick Packer, from South Suffolk Leisure, who coordinated the organisation of WOW said: “We’re so grateful to everyone who took part in the event, supported our riders or who helped to make Women on Wheels a success.”
One cyclist who took part said she had previously seen the riders pass through her village and decided it looked a fun thing to do so signed up.
She said: “I hadn’t ever cycled 20 miles before but knew there was no pressure to do it quickly so we just took our time and enjoyed the cake pitstops. It is a great event.”
All monies raised will now be counted and donated to St Nicholas Hospice.
