STEPPING into the grounds of Kentwell Hall was like travelling back more than 400 years this week.

Children and adults alike were transported back to 1553 and the age of the Tudors, as the hall in Long Melford held its annual Recreation of Tudor Life.

Over the weekend, hundreds of visitors were greeted by Tudors celebrating bringing in the year’s harvest, while on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, around 70 groups of schoolchildren enjoyed their very own trip back in time.

Patrick Phillips, who chalked up 40 years as the hall’s owner in August, said: “The school trips are a very important part of what we do here, as we are showing them what life was like in times past and the children really get the most out of their day here.”
