Members of an Alpheton social group are celebrating after winning a community achievement award.
Around 50 people attend the Alpheton Coffee Pot held in the village hall every other Tuesday. The group, founded by Christine Ariss, has been running for 13 years and was told before Christmas that it would be receiving an award from Babergh District Council.
“It is just a chance for friends to meet up and have a chat,” said Mrs Ariss. “People make cakes and we have a good time.
“Things have grown over the years and we have a good cross-section of ages and even people from outside the community.”
The group was nominated for the award for improving the quality of life for residents.
“We are happy doing this regardless of awards, but it is nice to be recognised,” said Mrs Ariss. “Thanks must go to the small band of people who make this possible.”
The group’s next meeting is on January 8.
