The Great House in Lavenham has been awarded the highly coveted three AA Rosettes at an awards ceremony in London.
This is one of the AA guide’s most prestigious awards and puts The Great House within the top eight per cent of the finest restaurants in Great Britain.
Awarded by AA hotel and restaurant inspectors, three rosettes are given to restaurants that demand recognition well beyond their local area.
Selection and sympathetic treatment of the highest quality ingredients, flavour combinations, intelligent service and a well-chosen wine list are all essential factors taken into account.
The 14th century Great House overlooks the Market Place in the centre of Lavenham, one of England’s most beautiful medieval villages.
Chef and restaurateur Regis Crepy and his wife Martine have owned the restaurant with rooms for 30 years, winning numerous awards.
The contemporary cuisine is based on classic French cooking.
Having never been concerned about fashion, for Mr Crepy it is all about the colour, balance and contrast, lead by Enrique Bilbault, the restaurant’s long-standing chef.
Diners can choose between full à la carte or set menus, available for both lunch and dinner, with service under the watchful eye of Thierry Pennec, the general manager.
After receiving the award at the AA Hospitality Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Mr Crepy said: “Martine and I have enjoyed a wonderful year celebrating our 30 years at The Great House.
“Obtaining three AA Rosettes is a huge honour and the icing on the cake.
“We are extremely proud of our loyal staff, many of whom have been with us over 20 years and are so pleased that their dedication is acknowledged with such a prestigious award that demands national recognition.
“We thank them for their commitment and hard work. We also thank our customers for their loyalty and friendship – it is invaluable.”
It has been a year of excellence for the Great House. In it was named the 26th best restaurant outside of London by Square Meal.
In November it won both the Editor’s Choice Award for a gourmet hotel in the Good Hotel Guide 2015 and came top in the fabulous food’ category of Sawday’s British Hotel Awards.
