A GP from Long Melford is urging residents to exercise and eat well to stay healthy over the winter.

As part of a NHS campaign aimed at reducing demands on the health service during the busy winter period, a doctor has offered his advice on how to look after yourself.

Dr Christopher Browning, who is also chairman of the NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “As well as exercise, it is important you eat well during the colder winter months.

“Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner as this will keep your energy levels up and help prevent you falling ill.

“Most winter illnesses do not require medical intervention and you can often treat yourself at home.

“Winter coughs and colds can be easily treated with an over-the-counter medicine from your pharmacist and plenty of rest.

“You don’t need a trip to your GP.”
