AN ITCH that has nagged Kenny Brooks for a year is about to become a distant memory.
In two weeks’ time, the 48-year-old from Assington will shave off his chinsulation in aid of Help for Heroes.
Mr Brooks, of Barracks Road, began shunning a shave after a day of fundraising at the village’s Shoulder of Mutton pub last year.
This year, the transport manager will be swapping his bar stool for a barbers chair.
“My beard’s six inches long when you pull it straight and it has been hard resisting the razor,” said Mr Brooks.
“I’ve become known as the wild man of Borneo in the pub.”
Mr Brooks aims to raise £1,000 for the charity, which supports wounded British soldiers, and was inspired by a similar effort last year.
“The pub has held a fundraising day for the past few years and last time there was a guy who had his beard shaved,” he said.
“I really admire the guys in Afghanistan and it’s a worthy cause. It will be a relief to get rid of the beard though.”
The shave will take place at the Shoulder of Mutton pub on August 26. To sponsor Mr Brooks call 07702 477849.
