Gearing up for cycle tour

CYCLING fans are in for a treat as the Tour of Britain arrives in Hadleigh next week.

The race passes through the town on Sunday, September 17, as 16 teams from across the globe do battle in the penultimate stage of the race.

Sue Longhurst, community development officer for Babergh District Council, said: “The race will be coming through Hadleigh just before 11am, having started in Bury St Edmunds and come through Lavenham, Monks Eleigh and the other villages.”

A number of attractions will also be in place for spectators.

A family cycle ride, street entertainers, a mobile skate park and free police bike checks will be taking place between 9.30am and 1pm, while Tour De France green jersey winner Mark Cavendish will compete in the race.

Mrs Longhurst said: “Mark is definitely taking part, so we are very pleased about that. We want to encourage cycling, we’ve got some good routes around Suffolk.

“Last year we had a great turnout in Sudbury so we are expecting really good support.”
