Gainsborough’s House art gallery and museum in Sudbury has been chosen as one of only two charities to be supported by Babergh District Council’s new chairman this year.

Nick Ridley, who was recently voted in as chairman, chose the gallery alongside The Bumblebee Children’s Charity in Sproughton.

Cllr Ridley said: “Becoming chairman gives me a wonderful opportunity to help raise the profile of these two excellent local charities and help to raise funds for them.

“Having been involved with Gainsborough’s House for a number of years, I am excited about the plans they have to transform the childhood home of Thomas Gainsborough.”

Money raised from The Chairman’s Civic Reception, and any other fundraising activities, will be split between the two charities.
