AN annual sports tournament in memory of a road accident victim takes place at the end of the month.
The third Gareth Weiland Sports Tournament will be held at the Boxford playing fields on May 29 and is organised by Gareth’s friend, Ben Woodfield.
Gareth was 26 when he died after being hit by a dustcart in East London in 2008.
The last two memorial events have raised more than £10,000 for local groups in Boxford – Gareth’s home village – and the surrounding area.
Beneficiaries have included the village youth and adult football teams, Edwarstone Cricket Club, Boxford Scouts and Boxford Youth Group.
Ben described his friend as a “great man” and added: “It is our way of remembering Gareth and raising money for some great local causes.”
Attractions on the day include a football tournament, live music, bar and a charity auction.
