AN event in support of British soldiers wounded in current conflicts raised £800.

More than 100 people visited the Five Bells in Great Cornard for a day of face painting, live music and a barbecue.

There was also a bike show by the Black Shuck motorcycle club – all in aid of Help for Heroes.

Landlady Wendy Hedley, who organised the day to run alongside national Armed Forces Day, said the money would be added to the £1,000 already raised for the charity.

“It was an absolutely fantastic day,” she said. “I can’t thank everyone who came enough, and the show was just brilliant.”

Mrs Hedley added that the pub hoped to continue its fundraising for Help for Heroes and would be holding a Christmas party in July as well as a pub Olympics later in the year with proceeds going to the cause.
