THE awards for floral displays handed out for Anglia in Bloom have been announced, with Halstead emerging triumphant.
The town, which last year won gold in the town category, repeated its success this year, also walking away with the competition’s best overall entry to earn the coveted trophy.
Michael Portway, chairman of Halstead in Bloom, said he was stunned that the town had secured top prize.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “The town has a wonderful team of volunteers and lots of support and I think it is the great community spirit that we have that did the job.”
Sudbury was also celebrating after receiving a silver gilt award in the town category from judges.
Jacqui Howells, a member of the Sudbury in Bloom committee and deputy town council clerk, said despite failing to secure the sought-after gold award, she was happy with the result.
“Although we haven’t won for 10 years, we will still keep going for the gold,” she said.
“We really need more community involvement from volunteers to come forward with ideas for projects.”
Halstead will attend the National RHS Britain in Bloom Finals on October 6.
