Two men were rescued from their car in Sible Hedingham after they became trapped in fast-flowing water in a ford.

One fire crew from Sible Hedingham and two from Colchester were called to the incident at Hull’s Mill at around 10am on Sunday.

Sub officer Ian Ryder, from Colchester Fire Station, said: “The transit pick-up had been driven into a ford that was two foot deep in water.

“The vehicle with the driver and passenger became stranded in the fast-flowing water.

“Two firefighters wearing dry suits used the fire service boat to rescue the two men from their vehicle and carry them to safety.”

The fire service is urging people to avoid driving through dangerous flood water.

A spokesman said: “When faced with flood water, drivers should exercise a little common sense.

“If at all possible, they should find an alternative route.”
