A house fire in Great Cornard last night (Monday) is being treated as arson.

Police are currently investigating the blaze, which started in Mallard Way.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 10.30pm, with nine vehicles from the local area responding.

A police spokesman said: “We were notified by the fire service who deemed the fire suspicious, so we are treating it as arson.”

Two fire engines from Sudbury attended the scene, which later requested assistance from Long Melford, Nayland, Ixworth and an aerial appliance from Colchester.

The fire was brought under control by 11.50pm.
