A JOINT fete held at two Great Cornard care homes was a success at the weekend.

Mellish House and Hillside care homes, which look after dementia patients, invited visitors to their first joint fete on Kings Hill on Saturday, featuring stalls, refreshments and games.

Theresa Oxley, activities co-ordinator at Mellish House, said £350 was raised, which will be split between the homes and used to pay for activities for the residents.

“The fete went really well and the money will help pay for a couple of entertainers to come in, or an outing, and we also run a café twice a week so it will help restock that,” she said.

The homes have organised their own fetes in the past but this was the first time they had teamed up.

“It was very busy – the children enjoyed the Punch and Judy show,” said Mrs Oxley. “We will definitely be doing another one next year.”
