Disruption was brought to residents in Acton after a fault left homes without working phone lines.
Villagers reported encountering difficulties using their land line phones late last week, with calls being interrupted by high pitch noises and in some cases no dialling tone found.
A spokesman for BT said more than 300 people had been affected by the problem, which was caused by water getting into an underground cable.
He said engineers had been sent out and had replaced 225 metres of cabling.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience while we have working on this,” the spokesman said.
