FIVE generations of one family helped a Sudbury man celebrate his 100th birthday.

George Theobald, who lives at Red House Care Home in Meadow Lane, marked his century with a party on Wednesday surrounded by his family, including daughter Berlinder Bonner and son Michael.

Mrs Bonner, from Blackfriars, put her father’s achievement down to a healthy lifestyle.

“To get to 100 is remarkable and it is a special occasion that merits getting the family together,” she said.

“He has always eaten good, fresh food, never smoked and been careful with his weight. I think he has reached this age due to clean living.”

Mr Theobald lived in Sudbury and Great Cornard before moving into Red House six years ago. A former carpenter, he lives at the care home with his wife of 74 years, Virginia, 97.

The couple’s two children have given them five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
