A football club is holding an event to commemorate the Christmas day truce when football was played between the trenches in 1914.

With 2014 marking the centenary of the start of the First World War, Cornard United Football Club has teamed up with the Royal British Legion, the Salvation Army and local schools for the ceremony on December 13 at 2.15pm.

Cornard United secretary Chris Lamb said the event will involve a selection of readings.

“We feel it is a community event not just a footballing event,” he said.
