A FAMILY fun day highlighting the importance of safety taught young and old some valuable lessons.

As part of National Family Week, the event at Great Cornard Library saw numerous organisations giving tips and advice on how to stay safe.

Staff from St John Ambulance were on hand to give first aid lessons, while members of the Suffolk Road Safety Team checked bicycles for any dangers.

Pc Verity Pearson, from Sudbury Police, was also present to give people a chance to look around a police car and answer questions.

Library manager Heather Welch said: “We had between 250 and 300 people who came along and the event went very well.

“We chose the theme of safety as we know how important that is to families and I think everyone found it very interesting and got something out of the day.”

A variety of craft and colouring activities were also run throughout the event.
