ENJOYING the spring sunshine in the open air of a Sudbury garden was the way 200 people chose to celebrate the weekend.

Visitors took the chance to view 24 gardens open in and around the town on Saturday and Sunday. The event raised £500 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Event organiser Maria Mills-Farinas said the number of visitors was down on last year but money raised for charity was better than expected.

She said: “We didn’t have as many come to visit as last year but I think a lot of people took the opportunity with the long weekend to go away.

“However, we had some wonderful gardens to view and everyone thoroughly enjoyed walking around town and comparing notes on all the different gardens on show.”

Gardens were open in Ballingdon, Cross Street, Quay Lane and Melford Road, and at Great Cornard and Great Waldingfield.
