A NEW weekly food waste collection service is being introduced in north Essex.
More than 40,000 households in the district will benefit from the new service, which is expected to stop around 5,000 tonnes of food being sent to landfill every year.
This month, householders will receive a letter from Braintree District Council giving information about the service, before getting a small food waste bin later in the summer.
Wendy Schmitt, cabinet member for environment, said: “This is great news for the majority of our residents who will now have their food waste collected every week.
“With everyone’s participation, this service will ensure a drastic reduction in how much we send to landfill – helping to keep our environment clean and green.”
A recycling team will be out in the district to answer any questions at food waste roadshows in the coming weeks, including at Weavers Court in Halstead from 9am to 2pm on July 22.
