Great Cornard Paralympian Jonathan Adams will officially open the first section of the Gainsborough Trail this weekend.
The shot putter will join Sudbury mayor Jack Owen in Waitrose car park on Saturday at 10.30am.
After the opening, there will be a walk along the trail, which begins at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre and follows Meadow Walk through the water meadows.
It is hoped the biodiversity trail will eventually become part of a 12.4-mile route linking Sudbury, Great Cornard and Chilton.
Jan Osborne, a member of the Gainsborough Trail Working Group, said the walk was becoming a reality after more than 20 years of discussions.
