A CHRISTMAS song penned by a Sudbury student is helping to raise money for a children’s charity.
Rory Isom, 17, from Queens Road, co-wrote, played bass and sang on This Winter as part of a project for his extended diploma in music at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds.
Rory and five other students, collectively known as Decibel Pro, are offering the song as a free download and asking for donations to Camille’s Appeal, an Ipswich-based charity which helps children suffering with brain tumours.
Rory, who has played bass for seven years, said: “It is really just a happy song, with lyrics about everyone getting together at Christmas and enjoying it.
“As Camille’s Appeal is quite local to the college, we decided to write the song for them and, as it’s Christmas, we thought it would be a great way to help.”
Course director Joe Stocking explained that the students took advantage of the opportunity presented by a project set for them.
“It is part of a marketing project they are doing,” he said. “They wrote and recorded it within a week – they only had one lesson on it so the rest was done during their own time.”
