MIXING, frying, chopping and baking are some of the kitchen skills being taught to children at Boxford Primary School as part of a new cooking club.

The Stone Street Road school has gained funding to be part of a national network of 4,000 cooking clubs for children, their families and the community.

Nursery teacher Dawn Lunness said: “The aim of the club is to teach young people and their families new cooking skills.

“We will do lots of cooking and prepare plenty of dishes that they can take home and, hopefully, make again.

“The club is open to all children and is held during the school lunch break on Tuesdays.”

Boxford will join celebrity chefs and Premier League football clubs from across the UK when it takes part in the Let’s Get Cooking BIG Cookathon competition, which is aimed at getting as many people as possible cooking a healthy dish together on April 5.

Hampden House Hostel in Cats Lane, Sudbury, will also be taking part in the initiative.

BIG Cookathon supporters include Norwich City FC, Bolton Wanderers FC and Masterchef judge Jay Rayner.
