GRATEFUL pupils at Great Waldingfield Primary School took their hats off to their marvellous mothers on Friday.

More than 70 mums accepted the invitation to the Mad Hatter’s tea party, held in the school hall, to start the Mother’s Day weekend.

Headteacher Angie Jones said: “The children made cakes for their mums to highlight how important they are and show how much the children appreciate what they do.”

The mums were asked to wear homemade hats for the occasion, as the children were each given the chance to say thanks.

“It was a bit tear-jerking at times,” said Mrs Jones. “The children made speeches saying why their mum is great, what makes them laugh or just a thankyou.”

The parents deemed to have the most ingenious hats were Mrs Posen for her rainforest hat, Mrs Newell for her daffodil-themed effort and Mrs Rose’s playing cards headgear.
