Hartest student in national poetry recital final

Hannah Bunting, 17, from Hartest, won through heats at her school before coming out on top in the regional finals in Ipswich and competing against other finalists from 41 schools across the country at London’s National Portrait Gallery on Friday.

“I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I would be, it is different doing it in front of people who all like the same thing as you,” said Miss Bunting.

She recited What the chairman told Tom by Basil Bunting and Invitation to Love by Paul Dunbar to an auditorium packed with around 150 people.

Although she was unable to continue her progress to the final round, Miss Bunting said she enjoyed the experience, which was organised by English teacher Samantha Read for GCSE and A Level students.
