Great Cornard school’s fundraising tops £5,000

SCHOOLCHILDREN will be working with new technology, thanks to fundraising efforts.

The Friends of Wells Hall Primary School, in Great Cornard, have raised £5,000 for new equipment over the last year, which was matched by a grant from Suffolk county councillor Peter Beer’s locality budget.

Headteacher Judith Fardell said: “The Friends raised the money through summer and Christmas fairs, school discos, car boot sales and clothing collections. They then wrote to Mr Beer saying we really need new equipment, which he has kindly match-funded.”

The money will go towards new overhead projectors, 20 new computers for the school’s ICT suite, as well as hand-held computers for children with motor skills difficulties.

Mr Beer said: “I think it will make a tremendous difference. Anything we can do to give the school these little extras is good.”

Mrs Fardell added: “Budgets are really tight in school so we are always looking for ways to pay for these things.”
