Discussions have again taken place over the future of Sudbury market and how it could be improved.

At a recent town council leisure and environment meeting councillor Jan Osborne suggested the town’s new town centre and events manager Ami Birrell could look into it.

It was recently suggested that the market could be moved to North Street, the idea receiving mixed feedback.

“I have had quite a few discussion with Jacqui Howells [town clerk] and people that live in the town about the market and how it could be improved,” said Mrs Osborne.

She suggested that it looked more like a car park than a market with the number of stall holders having to keep their vehicles on site.

She added the market was a key part of the town and said there was a risk of losing some stall holders with any changes, but said more would come in.

“If you make the place look nice it will encourage footfall,” she said.

Committee chairman Jack Owen said he felt a full council debate should be held on the subject, adding that he felt Miss Birrell should speak with stall holders to get their feedback.
