Family fruit and veg shop C A Watson & Sons in Sudbury has been bought by a property developer.
Barry Drury, who owns a number of shops and pubs in the area, has taken on the Gainsborough Street shop, which closed last month due to a gradual downturn in trade.
The business had been running for more than 60 years and had been managed by three generations of the same family.
Mr Drury said he believed the building would provide the perfect premises for a start-up business.
“I bought it because I want it to be available to local people and it is better than a multi-national coming in,” he said.
“I am prepared to be flexible with people and hopefully someone will be able to make a go of the place.”
Mr Drury has also recently received planning permission to divide the Pied Cow pub, which he bought three years ago, into four separate units.
He said the 17th century pub in King Street could be turned into shops, offices or eateries.
