DANCERS of all ages were invited to strut their stuff in the nation’s capital.

Free2Dance, an adult group from Sudbury and Halstead, performed at Her Majesty’s Theatre, near Leicester Square, as part of the Bobby Dazzlers 2012 production.

Choreographer and teacher Chantell Mayes said: “We have dancers of all ages, from early 20s to grandmothers in their 60s.”

Hazel Buist, Sonya Grimsey, Barbara Stone, Sabrina Vieira, Catherine Eve, Lyn Scillitoe, Gillian Thomas, Heather Murphy, Cheryl Johnson, Alison Cantor, Leanne Curry, Jeannie Humphries and Helen Dow make up the group.

They performed a Latin routine to Let’s Get Loud by Jennifer Lopez and an Asian-fusion-style dance to Shakira’s Años Luz in front of a packed house of around 1,000 spectators.

“It was amazing,” said Chantell. “The whole thing was like a West End show, with 15 dance groups from all across the country.”

Free2Dance also recently won the adult section of the Sudbury Festival, and runs classes in Sudbury, Halstead and Great Cornard throughout the week.

“Adult dance is an area of the community where there’s not a lot on offer, as there aren’t many classes where you can do something with it,” added Chantell.
