The sprints and climbs sections of the Women’s Tour, which is set to travel through Sudbury, were announced yesterday as preparations for the event get under way.

Each stage of the race will feature two Strava sponsored queen of the mountains and two intermediate Chain Reaction Cycles backed sprints, where riders earn points towards the two jerseys.

The race begins in Bury St Edmunds on June 17, with stage one ending in Aldeburgh.

Stage two will see riders set off in Braintree, before heading to Halstead, Castle Hedingham and Great Yeldham, ahead of its arrival in Sudbury.

Riders will tackle two Strava queen of the mountains climbs, the first on the Essex/Suffolk border at Finch Hill near Bulmer, on the way into Sudbury

The route then heads on to Hadleigh, before moving through East Bergholt, Manningtree and on to the stage finish in Clacton.

The second climb comes in Tendring, on the run in to the finish in Clacton, at Tenpenny Hill at Thorrington.

Teams from nine different countries will take part in the 2015 Friends Life Women’s Tour, including 12 of the world’s top 15 ranked teams.

In total, 96 riders will take part in the race, with the identities of the riders being announced next month.
