OFFICIALS from Sudbury will be making a trip to carry out one of their more unusual assignments tomorrow.
The Mayor of the town, Peter Goodchild and Mayoress, Valerie, will be visiting a meeting of Clare Historical Society and taking the famous “Godfrey Cup” with them.
The cup or tankard has a history dating back to the 1600s and was gifted to Sir Gervase Elwes of Stoke College by Sir Edmund Godfrey.
During the meeting entitled “Guild, Murder and Plot” the society will explore a new perspective on the cup with Roderick Braithwaite, a corporate historian from Little Yeldham.
Non-members are welcome to attend the meeting which begins at 7.30pm at the Bell Hotel in Station Road, with a £2 entrance fee.
