Two men arrested after plane diverted to Stansted Airport

Two men have been arrested after a plane carrying more than 300 passengers from Pakistan to Manchester was diverted to Stansted Airport and tailed by RAF Typhoon jet planes today.

Essex Police boarded the plane after it landed at Stansted and arrested the men, aged 30 and 41 on suspicion of endangering an aircraft. They have been removed from the plane and taken to a police station for interviewing.

Pakistan International Airlines flight number PK709 is reported to have left Lahore at 9.35am local time and was due at Manchester at 2pm but was diverted as it approached York, around 10 minutes before the scheduled landing time.
