A Sudbury man will appear in court today charged with causing a bomb scare at Kingfisher Leisure Centre on Friday.

Police were called to the centre in Station Road, Sudbury, at around 9.45pm after reports that a man had entered the centre at 8pm and thrown a small ignited item into a room after threatening a member of staff.

The item was extinguished immediately and no damage was caused or injuries sustained.

James Hasler, 33, from Woodhall Road, has been charged with a bomb hoax offence, as well as production and possession of cannabis.

He is due to appear today at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court.

Police placed a cordon around the leisure centre while they investigated the incident but this has now been lifted.
