POLICE are appealing for information following an early morning burglary which saw thieves ram-raid the front of an antiques shop.
Officers were called to the Long Melford Antiques Centre showrooms in Little St Mary’s, Long Melford, shortly after 3.30am on Wednesday.
A vehicle had been used to smash through the front of the shop, before thieves escaped with jewellery.
Speaking yesterday, investigating officer DI David Giles said it was not known how big a haul the thieves had escaped with.
“We will be examining CCTV later today and liaising with the shop owner to establish how much jewellery was stolen,” he said.
“A substantial amount of damage has been caused to the shop and its display cabinets.
“We will also be looking to identify the transfer vehicle, locating this and then arresting the people behind this crime.”
A blue minibus was used in the robbery, but was later abandoned in Liston Lane on the Essex border as the thieves switched to a different vehicle.
Anyone with any information in connection with this burglary should contact detectives at Bury Police Station on 01473 613500.
