Prevent thieves targeting your car

Two catalytic converter marking sessions will take place in Sudbury and Hadleigh in the next two weeks.

Police officers will be at Red Star Garage on Woodhall Business Park, Sudbury, on Tuesday, April 29 between 11am and 2pm. Large vans and motorhomes are only being permitted between 12pm and 2pm.

The second session will be at Crockatt Road Garage in Seager Court, Hadleigh, on Wednesday, May 8, between 8.30am and 12.30pm. All vehicles are welcome at any time.

Verity Line, crime reduction officer, said: “We have been having a great deal of interest with recent catalytic converter marking sessions and are keen to keep them going, with the kind help of our local garages.

“Vehicles with a high ground clearance are a favourite of offenders, including 4x4s, Ford Rangers, Mercedes and Iveco vans. These are easier to target as it is easy to crawl under the vehicle and remove the CAT which usually only takes a matter of minutes.”

Owners are also advised to keep their vehicles in garages or well-lit areas, leave commercial vehicles in locked buildings or compounds and use CCTV and alarms to deter thieves.
