Two thieves who stole from golf clubs across the country, including in Stoke-by-Nayland, have been found guilty of conspiracy to burgle, at Birmingham Crown Court.

Daniel Lloyd, 43, from Bromley, and Joe McCaughey, 26, from Croydon, were given three and five-year prison sentences respectively.

The pair stole from Stoke-by-Nayland Golf Club on November 17, 2009, in a run that included at least 36 other thefts across the UK.

Police found evidence on Lloyd’s computer of internet searches for instructions on how to pick locks, locker security and golf club thefts.

Posing as golfers, the pair were caught on CCTV and were part of a BBC Crimewatch campaign in 2010.

Officers believe the pair could have been responsible for more crimes and may have stolen goods worth more than £750,000.
