GLEMSFORD Primary School headteacher Liz Steele has compared the impact of her suspension by Suffolk County Council to a bereavement.
Mrs Steele and her son James Loker-Steele, who is an IT technician at the school, were suspended for serious professional misconduct in January.
It came after the school was reported to have been saddled with a £500,000 debt to Clydesdale Bank after leasing equipment, including 100 laptops, from Direct Technology Solutions, which has since gone into liquidation.
The school believed it had signed up to receive the items as part of a promotion, but had, in fact, signed a long-term lease agreement on the equipment, which had reportedly been marked up by up to 10 times its value.
Mrs Steele said: “The effect on my family has been very serious – it doesn’t get easier. It is like a bereavement but, as we don’t know our fate, we can’t start to come to terms with it.”
