Man charged with murder of Long Melford woman

A 56-year-old Ipswich man has been charged with the murder of a Long Melford woman.

Mary Roberts, 50, was found dead in the car park of St Edmund’s Tavern in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, on Wednesday, March 27.

Andrew Ratcliffe, from Wherstead Road in Ipswich, was due to return to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on police bail on Tuesday but was re-arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of murder.

He has now been charged with Mrs Roberts’ murder and remanded in custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

He is due to appear at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court later today.

A 59-year-old man from the Bury St Edmunds area, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, remains on police bail and is due to return to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on Wednesday.
