A MAN who attempted to kill himself before allegedly threatening police officers with a machete will appear in court tomorrow.
Robert Underwood, of Beatty Road, Sudbury, is charged with possessing an offensive weapon and making threats to kill, following an incident on a bridge over Springlands Way in Sudbury at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.
It is understood the 48-year-old attempted to jump off the bridge, before police officers arrived on the scene, leading to a stand-off.
A police spokeswoman said four officers managed to restrain Underwood, who suffered an injury to his hand in the struggle.
He was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds before being transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
