Halstead arson attack sparks call for information

Police are seeking information after an arson attack caused an explosion in Halstead.

The blaze, at a home in Mitchell Avenue, started at 12.30am on Friday, July 19, when discarded items outside the house caught fire.

The flames spread to the side of the house and caused a small explosion which woke the householders, who were able to leave safely.

A 43-year-old man was arrested at his nearby home a short time afterwards on suspicion of committing arson and has been released on police bail until September 30 pending further inquiries.
