A SUDBURY undertaker, accused of groping and kissing female guards at the military prison where he worked, has been cleared of sex assault charges.
Ex-Sgt Ronnie Thom, 43, had denied any wrong-doing, claiming that what happened was no more than typical “sexual banter that was a fact of everyday life in the Army.”
The eight-day court martial in Colchester heard lurid evidence from the alleged victims about intimate body piercings, group sex and dogging.
But the Army tribunal decided the father of three, of Sudbury funeral firm Hunnaball, had not pestered three other warders at the Military Corrective Training Centre in Colchester for sex between September 2009 and May 2010.
He was found guilty of two separate charges relating a young woman detainee at the Army jail.
