Car destroyed in arson attack

A LATE-NIGHT car fire in Hadleigh is being treated as arson.

Police and fire investigators believe the fire, which saw a Mini parked in a carport in Charter Close destroyed, was started on purpose.

One crew from the town’s fire station was called to the blaze shortly before 11pm on Saturday night.

Although the fire was put out by 11.40pm, the car was completely destroyed, while parts of the carport were badly damaged.

Hadleigh Mayor Penny Cook said the incident was a concern.

“It was quite a nasty incident and the police have told me they are out and about on patrol,” she said.

On Sunday morning, police made house-to-house inquiries, while fire investigators searched the area.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said the fire was being treated as suspicious.
