POLICE have again urged householders to secure their heating oil after a string of thefts across the region.
Almost 20 thefts were reported across Suffolk in December, with homes in Bildeston, Polstead and Edwardstone among those targeted.
Suffolk Police want people, particularly those in rural communities who rely on oil for heating during the winter months, to take some simple steps to prevent thefts, such as installing security lighting or screening tanks.
Crime reduction officer Bernard Plume said: “Large quantities of oil are often stolen, which means the thieves will need sizeable containers to collect the oil in and a van or a larger vehicle to take it away.
