Court fines assault victim
A Great Cornard man who was assaulted in Sudbury was fined by magistrates for repeatedly swearing at police.
Pawel Goleblowski, 35, of Mallard Way, admitted being drunk and disorderly on October 14 at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The court heard that police were alerted by CCTV cameras to King Street in Sudbury at around 1am, after a man had been assaulted.
Rosalind Cappleman, prosecuting, said: “The injured party was the defendant, who was located on Cornard Road,” adding that a group of people were being spoken to by officers nearby.
“He attempted to lunge past the police to get to the group,” she said. “He walked away but was swearing incessantly, despite being warned about his language.”
After repeatedly trying to get to the group, Goleblowski was arrested and taken to hospital to have facial injuries sustained in the assault looked at.
The court heard he had two previous convictions, the latest being fromSeptember 6 when he was disqualified from driving for failing to provide a specimen and not having insurance.
Goleblowski chose not to speak in mitigation.
He was fined £50 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge and warned that repeat offending would result in imprisonment by presiding magistrate Richard Kemp.
