Conmen thwarted in attempt to steal handbag

A man tried to enter a woman’s vehicle while another man asked her for directions in Sudbury.

The woman was returning to her car in Waitrose car park, in Station Road, at around 1.50pm on Wednesday when she was approached by a man with a map who asked her for directions.

As she spoke to him, she realised a second man was attempting to enter her car on the side she had left her handbag. She shouted at the man, who then walked away towards the car park exit, while his accomplice walked towards the shop entrance.

The first man is described as having dark short hair, a chubby face and a foreign accent. He was wearing glasses, a dark coat and light trousers, and was carrying an umbrella and large map.

The second man is described as wearing a three-quarter-length coat with a beanie hat and white trainers.

Police are urging residents to remain vigilant. Anyone with information should call Pc Craig Stock at the Hadleigh Response Team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
